A major road accident was reported late at night on the National Highway near Goraya in Punjab after two trucks collided head-on, leaving one of the vehicles severely damaged and the other plunging off a bridge. The crash resulted in serious injuries to one of the truck drivers and briefly disrupted traffic on the busy highway.

According to officials, the accident occurred on the National Highway near Goraya when the two heavy vehicles collided with great force. The impact of the collision was so severe that one truck fell off the bridge onto the road below, while the second truck remained on the bridge but sustained extensive damage.
Alert about the accident
Road Safety Force (SSF) In-charge Jaswinder Singh said the team received an alert about the accident through the Mobile Data Terminal (MDT) device during the night. Acting promptly, the SSF team rushed to the accident site to carry out rescue operations and manage the situation.
Efforts by the locals
Upon reaching the spot, the officials found that local residents and passers-by had already managed to pull the injured truck driver out of the damaged vehicle. The SSF personnel immediately provided first aid to the victim before shifting him to the Civil Hospital in Phillaur in a government vehicle for further medical treatment. The driver's condition was reported to be serious at the time of admission.
Legal procedures after the accident
Following the rescue operation, the SSF informed the MHC of Goraya Police Station about the incident so that the necessary legal procedures could be initiated. The National Highway Authority's emergency response team was also called to the site to assist in clearing the road and restoring normal traffic movement.
A hydra crane was deployed to remove the accident-damaged truck from the highway. The operation took some time due to the extent of the damage and the location of the vehicle. Once the truck was removed and debris was cleared from the road, traffic on the National Highway resumed smoothly.

The exact cause of the accident is yet to be determined. Police have begun an investigation and are expected to examine whether factors such as overspeeding, driver negligence, or poor visibility contributed to the collision.
