In a major development, a man named Abjeet Kingra has been sentenced to 6 years in prison by a Canadian court. Abjeet Kingra has been jailed for arson and firing a weapon at singer AP Dhillon's British Columbia home last year.
Abjeet Kingra, 26, got 2 years in jail for arson and six years for discharging a firearm into a place where a person may be present for his role in the 2024 shooting at the Punjabi singer's Canadian home.
As per NDTV report that quoted RCMP's official release, Abjeet Kingra was acting on the order of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang in India to commit targeted, criminal acts in Canada. The judge concluded that the attack on Dhillon's Vancouver Island home last year was not isolated.
Kingra was living in Ontario. he will serve his sentences concurrently. He is expected to spend about four and a half years in jail, after time served since his October 2024 arrest. The court also imposed a lifetime firearms ban and a DNA order on him.
The sentencing came just days after the Canadian government classified the Lawrence Bishnoi Gang as a terrorist entity that "engages in murder, shootings and arson, and generates terror through extortion and intimidation."
Canadian authorities have also issued an arrest warrant for a second suspect named Vikram Sharma, in connection with the shooting at Dhillon's home. As per CBC report, Sharma is believed to have left Canada.
The Lawrence Bishnoi-Rohit Godara gang claimed responsibility for the shootings. A message also circulated on social media in which it was claimed that the shooting took place on the night of September 1, 2024. The Lawrence Bishnoi gang orchestrated shootings at two locations in Canada—one on Victoria Island and the other in Woodbridge, Toronto.
The viral social media post reads, "Firing incidents took place at two locations on the night of September 1 - Victoria Island and Woodbrige Toronto. I (Rohit Godara from the Lawrence Bishnoi Gang) take responsibility for both the firing incidents.....The house in Victoria Island belongs to AP Dhillon. He was showing off after casting Salman Khan in his song. We came to your house, you should have come out and shown us some action. The underworld life you copy, we are actually living it..."
