A motorcycle was allegedly stolen from an upscale residential locality in Gurdaspur, adding to growing concerns over the rising number of theft and snatching incidents in the city. The latest incident took place in Bath Wali Colony on Jail Road, where a thief allegedly broke the lock of a parked motorcycle and fled with the vehicle. The entire act was captured on a nearby CCTV camera, providing crucial evidence for the police investigation.
Statements by the vehicle owner
According to the motorcycle owner, Kulwinder Pal Singh, the vehicle was parked outside his house when the theft took place. CCTV footage from a neighboring residence reportedly shows a man walking through the lane while wearing a parna (traditional headcloth). After surveying the area, the suspect is seen returning moments later, this time covering his face with the same cloth to conceal his identity.

The footage further shows the suspect approaching the parked motorcycle, breaking its lock within a short span of time, and then riding away from the scene. The theft was carried out in broad daylight, highlighting the confidence of the accused despite the presence of residential homes and surveillance cameras in the locality.
Speaking about the incident, Kulwinder Pal Singh said the accused fled in the direction of the district court complex after stealing the motorcycle. He expressed concern that the theft occurred in what is considered one of Gurdaspur's prominent and relatively secure neighborhoods.

The area where the incident occurred is located close to several important government establishments, including the Administrative Complex, the District Courts, the Deputy Commissioner's office, the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) office, and the official residences of judges.
