NHS Hospital, one of the region’s leading multi-super speciality healthcare institutions, is proud to announce the launch of its state-of-the-art Vertigo Laboratory on 15th August 2025 – a significant milestone that coincides with the nation’s Independence Day celebrations. This will be the first dedicated Vertigo Lab in Jalandhar, further reinforcing NHS Hospital’s commitment to bringing advanced, specialised healthcare facilities to the people of the city and surrounding areas.
The launch event will be held in the hospital’s auditorium and will be graced by Dr Sandeep Goel, Director and Senior Neurologist, Dr shubhang Aggarwal (Director and Senior orthopaedic surgeon) and Dr Naveen Chitkara, Director and Senior Neuro Surgeon, who will jointly inaugurate the new facility. All consultants, senior doctors, and staff members of NHS Hospital will be present to mark this historic occasion. The inauguration will be followed by an introduction to the lab’s facilities, demonstrations of diagnostic capabilities, and a presentation on how this innovation will benefit patients.
The Need for Specialised Vertigo Care
Vertigo – often described as a sensation of spinning, dizziness, or imbalance – is not a disease in itself but a symptom that can arise from various underlying conditions. These may include inner ear disorders, neurological conditions, head injuries, or even certain systemic illnesses. Without proper evaluation, patients may experience persistent discomfort, reduced mobility, and an increased risk of falls, which can significantly impact quality of life.
Until now, patients in Jalandhar with complex vertigo and balance disorders often had to travel to other cities for specialised assessment and treatment. The establishment of a dedicated Vertigo Lab within NHS Hospital means that accurate diagnosis, timely intervention, and personalised rehabilitation plans will now be available locally – a development that will save both time and resources for patients and their families.
Advanced Facilities and Expert Team
The new Vertigo Lab at NHS Hospital is equipped with the latest diagnostic tools designed to assess balance, eye movement, and inner ear function with precision. These include:
Computerised Dynamic Posturography to evaluate balance control in different sensory conditions.
Video Nystagmography (VNG) for recording and analysing involuntary eye movements.
Caloric Testing to assess each ear’s response to stimulation.
Rotational Chair Testing for detailed evaluation of vestibular function.
Specialised rehabilitation equipment for vestibular therapy.
Led by Dr Sandeep Goel and Dr Naveen Chitkara, the Vertigo Lab will function under the combined expertise of neurologists, ENT specialists, and rehabilitation therapists. This collaborative, multi-disciplinary approach ensures that each patient receives comprehensive care – from accurate diagnosis to tailored treatment programmes, including medication, vestibular rehabilitation exercises, and surgical interventions when necessary.
A Step Towards ‘Freedom from Vertigos’
The launch date of 15th August holds special symbolic significance. As India celebrates its 79th Independence Day, NHS Hospital’s Vertigo Lab promises to offer patients their own version of independence – freedom from the constant discomfort and limitations caused by vertigo.
Speaking ahead of the launch, Dr Sandeep Goel said:
“Vertigo and balance disorders can be frustrating and disabling. With our dedicated Vertigo Lab, we aim to provide accurate diagnosis and effective management, restoring patients’ confidence and quality of life – right here in Jalandhar.”
Dr Naveen Chitkara added:
“For the first time, residents of Jalandhar will have access to a specialised facility of this nature without the need to travel long distances. It is a proud moment for NHS Hospital, and a significant advancement in neurological and balance disorder care for the region.”
Commitment to Excellence
Since its inception, NHS Hospital has consistently invested in cutting-edge technology, specialist expertise, and patient-focused care. The launch of the Vertigo Lab is yet another example of the hospital’s mission to remain at the forefront of medical innovation in North India.
The hospital’s leadership believes that early diagnosis is the key to effective vertigo management. By integrating advanced equipment with clinical expertise, the new facility will be able to detect subtle signs of vestibular dysfunction and guide patients towards the most appropriate treatment pathway.
An Invitation to the Community
The hospital extends a warm invitation to all members of the community to attend the inauguration ceremony and learn more about vertigo, its causes, and the treatments now available locally. Patients suffering from dizziness or unexplained imbalance can also use the occasion to consult with specialists and explore possible treatment options.
The launch event will begin with a ceremonial ribbon-cutting, followed by an introduction to the lab’s services, and conclude with refreshments and an opportunity for guests to interact with the medical team.
As the region marks this dual celebration of national freedom and medical progress, NHS Hospital proudly introduces a facility that embodies both – helping individuals reclaim control over their lives and mobility.
