Nitin Kohli initiates long-stalled development works at Amar Bagh Cremation Ground
Work underway on flooring, new pyre platforms, sheds, lighting, main gate, and road widening
Development works—which had remained stalled for several years—have finally commenced at the Amar Bagh Cremation Ground, located on Ladowali Road (near BSF Chowk) in Ward No. 19. These works have begun amid efforts of Nitin Kohli (Aam Aadmi Party, Jalandhar Central In-charge), bringing significant relief to the residents of the area.
Keeping in mind the long-standing demands of local residents and the Cremation Ground Committee, work is proceeding rapidly to upgrade basic amenities at the site. As part of this initiative, new flooring is being laid, new pyre platforms (kunds) are being constructed, a protective shed is being installed, lighting fixtures are being set up to ensure proper illumination, and a new main gate is being built to ensure that visitors face no inconvenience whatsoever.
Furthermore, the access road leading to the cremation ground is being widened to facilitate smoother movement and accessibility. The boundary wall adjacent to the PAP complex is also being reinforced and paved. Previously, during periods of heavy rain or strong winds, soil from the embankment near this wall would spill onto the pathway, causing considerable difficulty for people trying to access the grounds.
All these demands had been consistently raised by local residents and the Cremation Ground Committees for approximately 25 to 30 years; however, until now, no one had taken concrete action to address them. Now, thanks to Nitin Kohli's efforts, these long-pending projects are finally becoming a reality on the ground.
Amanpreet Singh, President of the Amar Bagh Cremation Ground Committee, along with his committee members, expressed their heartfelt gratitude to Nitin Kohli. They remarked that a task which no one else had been able to accomplish until now has finally been made possible. They further noted that this issue had been raised before representatives of every political party in the past, yet no viable solution had ever emerged. He also noted that during the rainy season, the flooring of the cremation ground would deteriorate and the old tanks would fill with water, causing significant inconvenience to the people. Therefore, the execution of these works was absolutely essential.
Welcoming this initiative, the local residents expressed their gratitude to Nitin Kohli and voiced their hope that similar developmental works in the area would continue in the future as well.
