Punjabi singer Resham Anmol has responded to the controversy surrounding his claim that ethanol-blended petrol damaged his ₹1.55 crore Land Rover Defender, stating that his video was not part of any political campaign or propaganda but was aimed at highlighting concerns faced by vehicle owners.
Start of the controversy
The controversy began after Anmol shared a video claiming that his luxury SUV had suffered damage after using ethanol-mixed petrol. The video quickly went viral, with some social media users questioning his claims and alleging that he was promoting a specific agenda. Facing criticism and online backlash, the singer released another video to explain his side.
Initial problem in the vehicle
Anmol said his Defender had actually developed a problem in May 2026, after which he took the vehicle to a workshop for inspection. According to him, the examination revealed an issue with the fuel pump, which was later replaced at Dada Motors, Chandigarh. He also shared the service bill to support his claim that the vehicle repair was genuine.
Allegations of paid PR
Rejecting allegations of paid promotion or political motives, Anmol said his intention was only to raise awareness among ordinary vehicle users. “No agenda, no propaganda,” he said, adding that he does not represent any political party and his concern was related to fuel transparency and consumer awareness.
Inconvenience to get petrol of choice
The singer further claimed that while travelling from Chandigarh to Delhi recently, he visited multiple fuel stations in search of premium petrol options such as XP100 or XP95, but could not find them. He said he approached around five to six petrol pumps but was unable to get clear information about fuel quality and ethanol content.
Varied information by the pump employees
According to Anmol, employees at different petrol pumps gave varying information about ethanol blending levels, creating confusion among consumers. He questioned why customers are not clearly informed about the percentage of ethanol mixed in petrol before purchasing fuel.
Appeal to the government
The singer has now urged the government and the Petroleum Ministry to make it mandatory for petrol pumps to display ethanol blending details through visible notice boards. He argued that consumers have the right to know the quality and composition of the fuel they are using, especially when it may impact vehicle performance.
Anmol’s Defender was purchased on November 7, 2025, reportedly for around ₹1.55 crore. His earlier luxury vehicle, a Range Rover Sport, was damaged during Punjab flood relief activities in 2025, following which he bought the Defender 110.
While the singer’s claims have sparked debate over ethanol blending and vehicle compatibility, experts have maintained that vehicle issues can have multiple causes and require technical investigation before linking them directly to fuel quality.
The controversy has now shifted the focus from one celebrity’s vehicle issue to a larger discussion on fuel transparency, consumer awareness and the need for clearer information at petrol stations.
