The situation is so grim that Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Tuesday announced 4-days school holidays in the state. The schools in Punjab will remain closed from August 27 to August 30.

Pathankot is among the districts that have been witnessing floods. SSP Pathankot Daljinder Singh Dhillon informed True Scoop that people from 3 flood-hit villages were airlifted.

Before this, SSP Pathankot Daljinder Singh Dhillon, said, "The situation in Pathankot district is very alarming. Ranjit Sagar Dam is overflowing due to which Ravi river's water level has raised. Apart from this, the water is meeting Ujh river and Jalalia River. As a result, Ujh river is also overflowing. So villages like Taash, Maakhanpura have been severely hit. Many people are on the terrace of their house and awaiting rescue. NDRF teams have already gone there but water currents are very strong. So we have requested authorities including the Army to airlift the affected people once the rain stops."

'Don's step out from your home'

SSP Dhillon further said, 'Pathankot Police has appealed the public that without extreme emergency don't step outside from your homes. Traffic has been disrupted as water is flowing in many areas. People living in villages specially Narot Jaimal Singh area, we request them to leave their house if it is near river and shift to safe spots prepared by Punjab Government."

The district administration has also established a rehabilitation center in the Radha Saomi Satsang. Furthermore, Gurudwara Shri Barth Sahib's complex has been declared as 'Sarnarthi Ghar'."
