The Punjab Government has released its official holiday calendar for 2027, announcing 32 gazetted holidays and 27 restricted holidays for the year.
The notification was issued by the Department of Personnel on October 15, 2026, and outlines the holidays to be observed during the coming calendar year. Government employees can also avail themselves of two restricted holidays from the notified list, subject to the applicable rules
Which months have the most holidays?
According to the published holiday calendar, March will have four gazetted holiday entries, while April will have five. September is reported to have the highest number of holidays, with seven, followed by October with five.
The calendar includes major national and religious occasions, including Republic Day, Baisakhi, Holi, Diwali, Dussehra and the birth anniversaries and martyrdom days of Sikh Gurus and other prominent figures. Independence Day and Guru Nanak Gurpurab fall on Sundays
Two major occasions will fall on Sundays in 2027. Independence Day will be observed on August 15, while the birth anniversary of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji will fall on November 14.
Both dates coincide with the weekly Sunday holiday. Employees should therefore check the official rules rather than assume that a substitute holiday will be granted on another day.
What about working days in 2027?
The published calendar has been reported to provide 237 working days after accounting for weekends and gazetted holidays. However, this figure should be treated as a calendar-based calculation rather than a separate guarantee of the number of working days for every employee or institution.
