A horrific road accident took place near Mand village on Kapurthala Road in Jalandhar, Punjab on Tuesday morning. Three people died on the spot in this. According to the information received, the incident took place at 3.20 in the morning.
It has been revealed that the driver of the PRTC bus fell asleep and the bus hit the road divider and swerved onto the opposite lane, colliding head-on with an oncoming pickup vehicle.
The collision was so strong that the pick-up was shattered and three people in it died on the spot.
The deceased have been identified as traders associated with Kapurthala Sabzi Mandi (Vegetable Market). It is being told that they were going towards Jalandhar with vegetables in the morning.
The victims have been identified as Rakesh, son of Mohat, resident of Aujla Phatak near Deep Nagar Colony (Kapurthala); Mukesh Kumar, son of Sudhir Singh, resident of New Sabzi Mandi (Kapurthala); and Ishwar Bind, son of Mahendra Bind, also a resident of New Sabzi Mandi (Kapurthala).
Police of Maqsudan police station had reached the crime scene for investigation. A few hours after the accident, the police have taken the bus driver into custody and he is being continuously questioned.
The police is also trying to find out what was the exact reason for the accident.
A large number of people gathered at the spot after the accident. Angry family members and villagers staged a sit-in protest on Kapurthala-Jalandhar road and blocked the road and demanded strict action against the guilty bus driver from the administration.
As soon as the information was received, the police also reached the spot and tried to control the situation. Police officials assured them that the matter will be investigated thoroughly.
