Prime Minister Modi to visit Chandigarh tomorrow; Tight security and traffic diversions in place

The Chandigarh police shared a traffic advisory on X. The advisory stated few important points regarding the diversion and scheduled routes

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be on a visit to Chandigarh on Friday i.e. 17 July. There he is scheduled to spend around 45 minutes at Punjab Engineering College (PEC).Due to this event, Chandigarh Police has significantly tightened security arrangements, with central security agencies also deployed to ensure a smooth and secure event.

A route of nearly 2-kilometre from Rajendra Park to Punjab Engineering College has been declared as high-security zone. Traffic diversions will remain in effect on the route from Nayagaon towards the Chandigarh Barrier. Vehicle movement at the Sector 2/3/10/11 roundabout will also be regulated during the visit.

Around 3,000 Police Personnel Deployed

The entire security operation is being personally monitored by the Director General of Police (DGP). Chandigarh Police has been placed on high alert ahead of the Prime Minister's visit in addition to suspension of leaves for police personnel. Nearly 3,000 police officers and personnel will be deployed across the city to manage security.

Central Agencies to Secure PM's Route

The Prime Minister's designated route has been handed over to central security agencies, including the Border Security Force (BSF) and other specialised units. Security personnel have been designated at strategic locations along the route, with Chandigarh Police and central agencies will be overseeing all arrangements in coordination.

Entry to Begin at 11 AM

Prime Minister Modi's programme at Punjab Engineering College is scheduled for 1:30 PM. Entry for attendees will begin at 11 AM after mandatory security checks. Visitors will not be allowed to carry any personal belongings, including water bottles, inside the venue.

Fully Air-Conditioned, Waterproof Venue

The venue for the Prime Minister's public event has been set up as a fully air-conditioned and waterproof pandal. The structure has been designed to ensure that attendees remain comfortable even in the event of rain or adverse weather conditions.

BJP Leaders Assigned Coordination Duties

Attendance at the event has been planned in advance. Members of market committees, Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs), and various organisations have been selected to participate. Entry passes will be issued to all invitees, with Chandigarh BJP leaders tasked with coordinating invitations and facilitating pass distribution.

Traffic advisory by Chandigarh police

The Chandigarh police shared a traffic advisory on X on July 15, ahead of PM’s visit. The advisory stated few important points regarding the diversion and scheduled routes. These are as follows:

1.Diversion of routes

The general public is requested to avoid Chandigarh- Nayangaon barrier towards PEC Light point to Sector 2/3/10/11 chowk on 17 July till 3:00 PM. In addition to this, other stretches may also be restricted or diverted to alternate routes. The general public was hence requested to take this into consideration to avoid congestion.

To get live updates on the traffic, the public is said to follow the Social media account of Chandigarh Police

3.Parking vehicles

The text also mentioned that strict actions under law would be taken towards those who fail to follow parking rules. The invitees and staff to park their vehicles in designated parking lots only while general public is requested to not park their vehicles on cycle tracks/pedestrian pathways to avoid the tow of their vehicle.

The advisory also mentioned “Chandigarh traffic police appeals to general public to cooperate with the police and any inconvenience caused on account of these restrictions/diversions is deeply regretted”
