Frustrated by the lack of medical treatment, a prisoner lodged in Hoshiarpur Central Jail swallowed four sharp iron nails, causing unrest within the jail administration.
The inmate has been identified as Chandeep Singh, a resident of Lalpur Bhana village in Mahilpur, who had been serving a sentence under NDPS and other acts. Allegedly, Chandeep had been ill for a while and was requesting treatment from the jail administration, however due to alleged lack of treatment he got distressed and took this step.
As per the reports, he removed four sharp nails form the jail wall and swallowed them around 7 PM, following which the jail staff immediately took him to a government hospital in Hoshiarpur.
Talking about the incident, Dr. Rahul shares that the prisoner had swallowed four iron nails. The confirmation was made after a scan was conducted that revealed nails in the inmate’s stomach. As per the doctor, the case is very serious and the prisoner may be referred to the PGI in Chandigarh for better treatment. As of now he is hospitalized and under 24-hour observation.
