CP Satinder Singh reaches spot, clears traffic at Jalandhar- Delhi highway amid Punjab bandh

CP Satinder Singh said that people were cooperating with the police and that the bandh had not resulted in any major disruption to daily life

The Punjab bandh call on Thursday witnessed peaceful protests in Jalandhar, with Commissioner of Police Satinder Singh reaching the spot to assess the situation and ensure that normal movement of traffic and public activities remained unaffected.

Addressing the situation, CP Satinder Singh said that people were cooperating with the police and that the bandh had not resulted in any major disruption to daily life. Although some protesting farmers came onto the roads, they were moved to the side, ensuring that traffic continued to flow without a blockade.

Police Ensure Smooth Traffic Movement

The Commissioner of Police said that there was no road blockade and that both the highway and city roads were functioning normally. Commuters were able to move freely, with no significant traffic disruption reported at the spot.

He emphasised that the situation remained under control, with no breach of law and order reported. Police personnel were monitoring the situation to ensure that the protests remained peaceful and that members of the public did not face unnecessary inconvenience.

According to the CP, the protesters were cooperating and no formal dharnas had been established at the location. The police response was aimed at maintaining public order while allowing people to exercise their right to peaceful protest.

Shops Remain Open as City Continues to Function

Providing an update on the situation in the city, Satinder Singh said that many shops were operating normally and remained open despite the bandh call.

He said that normal activities were continuing across the city and that the overall situation remained smooth. The police maintained a presence on the ground to facilitate traffic movement and prevent any untoward incident.

The CP's visit to the spot came amid the statewide bandh called following the killing of anti-drug activist Parvinder Singh Jhota in Mansa. The protest has drawn support from various organisations, including farmer groups, traders and political parties, with protesters demanding justice in the case.

While the bandh call prompted protests at several places, the situation in Jalandhar remained peaceful, with the police stressing that traffic, commercial activity and public movement were continuing normally.
