Police action was witnessed at Guru Nanak Mission Chowk in Jalandhar on Thursday as supporters gathered during the Punjab Bandh called over the murder of anti-drug activist Parvinder Singh Jhota. Police reached the spot and removed the protesters, while some were also taken into custody.
Around 300 police personnel have been deployed across Jalandhar from 7 AM to 7 PM to maintain law and order during the bandh. The Commissioner of Police is personally monitoring the situation.
Special security arrangements have been made at markets, streets and major intersections to prevent traffic disruptions and ensure that the public, school-going children and ambulances can move without inconvenience.
Police have appealed to protesters to hold demonstrations peacefully. Officials have also warned that no one will be allowed to forcibly shut markets or block public movement, while protesters have been asked to sit along the roadside instead of occupying intersections, allowing traffic to continue.
The Punjab Bandh has been called on October 15 to demand justice in the Parvinder Singh Jhota murder case, and police remain on high alert across the city, with security arrangements in place to maintain peace and prevent disruption to daily life.
