Punjab bank holiday on Maha Ashtami; Know if it’s a Public Holiday

As per the RBI’s holiday list September 29 (Monday) is a Bank holiday in Agartala, Guwahati, Kolkata, and Punjab for Maha Saptami.

According to the RBI holiday calendar, Punjab Bank branches will close on September 29, Monday, due to Maha Saptami, and will also be closed for Maha Saptami and Maha Ashtami on September 30, Tuesday.

While government offices and most private offices will be open, this will not be a public holiday.

As per RBI guidelines

  • On September 29, Monday, banks in Agartala, Guwahati, Kolkata, and Punjab will observe holidays for Maha Saptami & Durga Puja.

  • September 30, Tuesday, will also be a bank holiday in Agartala, Bhubaneswar, Guwahati, Imphal, Jaipur, Patna, Ranchi for celebration of Durga Puja.

Hence, if you have any banking work, do it on or before the mentioned dates. However, you will still be able to do online and mobile banking.

It is to be noted that, 30th Sepetmber, Maha Astami Day is only a bank holiday Punjab. Maha Asthami day is not a public or Government holiday in Punjab.

Redidents and customers of Punjab are advised to check Punjab government notification for any holiday.

The month of September is ending while giving a fresh start to the festive month of October.

Last day of pious Navratre will be celebrated on the 1st day of Navratre. But it is not a holiday for banks or for the government office in Punjab. However October 2nd will be holiday in Punjab on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti and Vijayadashmi.
