Punjab DC's deleted social media post on PM Modi's flood package sparks row

A social media post posted on official X handle of a Deputy Commissioner (DC) from a district of Punjab has sparked a fresh controversy.

While slowly and steadily Punjab has started to recover from the floods, controversy continue to grow from PM Modi's visit to the state. PM Modi visited Punjab flood-hit areas and had announced Rs 1600 crore relief package. Rs 1600 crore Punjab Floods Relief Package was called a cruel joke by the Aam Aadmi Party and other political parties.

In the meantime, a social media post posted on official X handle of a Deputy Commissioner (DC) from a district of Punjab has sparked a fresh controversy.

Punjab DC's viral post on PM Modi's flood relief package

A social media post was posted against the Prime Minister from the official X (formerly Twitter) handle of Sangrur DC Rahul Chaba, which created a stir on social media.

As per reports, late night a post was posted from the official X account of DC Sangrur, which reads, " (Translated version) When Punjab, which filled the food reserves of the country under the Green Revolution and gave the highest number of martyrs on the border, is facing the brunt of floods, then Prime Minister Narendra Modi's announcement of a relief amount of only Rs 1600 crore is a big joke with Punjab."

This post went viral in no time and people were surprised that how could a senior officer posted in the administrative service make such a comment on the Prime Minister.

Sangrur DC issues clarification on viral post on PM Modi

After deleting the viral X post, Sangrur DC then posted, "Public Notice

A political post was inadvertently issued from official handle of DC Sangrur.

The post was unauthorized & immediately deleted.

This office reaffirms full neutrality and impartial service. Action is being taken against concerned official."

What went wrong?

As per reports, the post made from his official handle was not from the DC. The social media accounts of the Deputy Commissioners in all the districts of Punjab are under the control of the respective District Public Relations Officer (DPRO).

It is being said that the statement was actually of a cabinet minister, which the DPRO posted by mistake from his official handle.

A letter has been sent to the Secretary, Public Relations Department in this matter and recommended action against the concerned officer.

It is also said that a departmental action will be taken against the officer responsible for this mistake so that such a mistake does not happen again in future.
