Punjab Government revokes suspension of former Vigilance Bureau Chief Surinder Pal Singh Parmar

Suspended in April over alleged misconduct in driving licence scam, the 1997-batch officer had also served as Punjab Vigilance Bureau Chief.

The Punjab Government on Wednesday revoked the suspension of senior IPS officer Surinder Pal Singh Parmar (1997 batch) with immediate effect. The order, issued by the Department of Home Affairs directs the officer to report to the Director General of Police, Punjab, while his new posting orders will be announced separately.

Why was IPS Officer Surinder Pal Singh Parmar suspended?

Parmar was suspended on April 25, 2025, for alleged “grave misconduct and dereliction of duty” in connection with the driving licence scam. His suspension was subsequently endorsed and extended by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Government of India, until June 23, 2025, with a direction to serve a charge-sheet.

Later, a review committee recommended another extension of 120 days, which was approved until August 21, 2025.

On Wednesday, the Governor of Punjab approved the revocation of the suspension, clearing Parmar to return to service. The order was signed by Alok Shekhar, Additional Chief Secretary to the Government of Punjab (Home Affairs).

Before his suspension, he was appointed Chief Director of the Vigilance Bureau, SAS Nagar, in March 2025, succeeding ADGP G. Nageswara Rao.
