Punjab minister, Harjot Singh Bains urges caution amid heavy rain, says no need to panic

In a video message, Bains said he was personally present in the field and monitoring the situation on the ground.

Amid heavy rainfall in Anandpur Sahib and Nangal since Tuesday evening, Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains has appealed to residents to remain alert while assuring them that there is no need to panic at present.

In a video message, Bains said he was personally present in the field and monitoring the situation on the ground. He appealed to residents to immediately inform the authorities if they face any difficulty or require assistance.

Bains Says He Is Monitoring Situation on Ground

Bains said he was himself in the affected areas and keeping track of the situation amid the continuous rainfall.

He assured residents that if any issue arises, they should contact the concerned authorities rather than worry unnecessarily. He also said that he would personally report to the location if residents inform him about any problem requiring attention.

The minister's message comes as persistent rain has raised concerns in parts of Anandpur Sahib and Nangal, particularly around water bodies and areas vulnerable to rising water levels.

Residents Urged to Stay Away From Rivers and canals

While assuring people that there was currently no reason to panic, Bains issued a specific caution to residents living near or visiting water bodies.

He urged people to maintain a safe distance from ponds, rivers and other water bodies during the period of heavy rainfall. With water levels potentially changing rapidly during prolonged rain, residents have been advised not to approach such areas unnecessarily.

The appeal is particularly relevant for people who may be tempted to visit rivers or water bodies to monitor rising water levels during the rain.

Sarpanches Asked to Report Local Issues

Bains also appealed to village sarpanches to communicate any local problem directly.

He said that if a sarpanch identifies an issue or receives information about a requirement in the village, the matter can be brought to his attention so that he can report to the location and coordinate the required response.

The emphasis, he said, is on identifying problems quickly and ensuring that residents receive assistance wherever required.

‘No Need to Worry Right Now’

The minister's message sought to strike a balance between caution and reassurance.

While acknowledging the heavy rainfall in Anandpur Sahib and Nangal, Bains said there was no need for residents to worry about the situation at present. At the same time, he urged people not to take unnecessary risks around rivers and ponds and to remain connected with local authorities.

As rainfall continues, residents are being encouraged to stay updated through official channels and report any emergency or local infrastructure-related issue promptly.

For now, Bains' message is clear: there is no need to panic, but caution is essential—especially around water bodies.
