In an attempt to crackdown on corruption and make the system more transparent, Punjab RTOs have been made 'faceless' by the Bhagwant Mann Government. Now, all RTO related services can either be accessed by calling 1076 number or by visiting Sewa Kendras.

In the meantime, Punjab RTOs Challan counters have also been closed. As per reports, from now on no challans will be paid at RTO counters. Challans must be paid online only. Regional Transport Office employees will not accept any cash from anyone.

Take below mentioned precautions while paying for challans-

  • Do not make payments through WhatsApp.

  • Only make payments through government websites or apps on the Play Store or App Store.

  • If you receive a fraudulent link, immediately inform the cyber police.

Vehicle challans are issued by traffic police and RTO officers. Every challan is processed online from both sides. No one is challaned offline anymore. The driver is informed of the challan amount at the time of online payment. If they pay the amount on the spot, they don't have to submit any documents.

If the challan is not paid on the spot, the police and RTO will collect their documents as per the old procedure. After a few days, when the driver pays the challan online, they will show their receipt to the RTO. The RTO will then hand over their documents.
