Punjab to witness a rainy week? IMD predicts active monsoon across the state

Punjab is expected to remain under the influence of an active monsoon for most of the week. While the rainfall is set to provide relief from the summer heat

Punjab is likely to witness an active spell of monsoon weather this week, with rain and thunderstorms expected to affect several parts of the state over the next few days. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Chandigarh, changing weather conditions are likely to bring intermittent showers, cloudy skies and gusty winds, offering some relief from the scorching heat that has gripped the region in recent days.

In the last 24 hours, the highest maximum temperature in the state was 40.3°C, recorded at Bathinda AP while the lowest minimum temperature in the state is 23.9°C recorded at Amritsar. For the next week, light to moderate rainfall is likely at few places on 06thand 10th to 12th July; at many places on 07th to 09th in the state while heavy rain likely at isolated places from 06th to 09th & 11th to 12th July.

For the next week, Pathankot, Hoshiapur, Rupnagar and SAS Mohali have warnings for heavy rains constantly. However, places like Fatehgarh Sahib and Nawanshahar have heavy rainfall warnings for 2 consecutive days i.e. 8th and 9th July. For July 7, light to moderate rainfall is likely at most places over Chandigarh and light to moderate rainfall is likely at isolated places over Ferozpur, Fazilka, Faridkot, Muktsar, Bhatinda and Mansa.

July 8 and 9 predictions reveal light to moderate rainfall is likely at most places over, Pathankot, Hoshiapur, Rupnagar, Fatehgarh Sahib and Nawanshahar and SAS Mohali Light to moderate rainfall is likely at many places over Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Barnala, Sangrur and Patiala.

Light to moderate rainfall is likely at many places over Pathankot, Hoshiapur, Rupnagar and SAS Mohali along with light to moderate rainfall is likely at few places over Gurdaspur, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Patiala and Fatehgarh Sahib. Similarly, light to moderate rainfall is likely at isolated places over Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Moga, Barnala, Mansa, Sangrur and Fatehbad.

Overall, Punjab is expected to remain under the influence of an active monsoon system for most of the week. While the rainfall is set to provide much-needed relief from the intense summer heat, residents should remain alert for changing weather conditions and follow advisories issued by the India Meteorological Department.
