Punjab woman wins ₹1 crore lottery with just ₹7, hopes for better future for children

The prize money has now raised hopes of improving their living conditions and securing a better future for their children.

A routine shopping trip for her children turned into a life-changing moment for Bimla Devi, a resident of Kotkapura in Punjab, after a lottery ticket worth just ₹7 won her a prize of ₹1 crore.

Bimla, whose husband works as a daily-wage labourer, had purchased the ticket while out to buy clothes for her children. Little did she know that the small purchase would bring such a significant change to her family's financial prospects.

From a ₹7 Ticket to a ₹1 Crore Prize

Bimla bought the lottery ticket from the Star Lottery Stall near the railway station on Railway Road in Kotkapura. According to the information provided, the ticket was purchased on a whim, and the winning result was announced the following day.

Lottery stall operator Naresh Monga contacted the family after the results were declared and informed them that Bimla had won the ₹1-crore prize in a lottery organised by the Sikkim government.

The unexpected win brought excitement and hope to the family, which has been managing its household expenses on a labourer's income.

Family Hopes for a Better Future

Bimla said that meeting everyday household expenses had not been easy, given the family's financial circumstances. The prize money has now raised hopes of improving their living conditions and securing a better future for their children.

The family has not yet decided how it will use the winnings. Bimla said they plan to discuss the matter with other family members before making a decision.

One possibility under consideration is starting a small business, which could provide a more stable source of income and help the family become financially secure.

Lottery Stall Owner Celebrates First ₹1 Crore Win

Naresh Monga, who has been operating the lottery business for around six months, said his stall had previously sold tickets that won prizes worth lakhs of rupees.

However, according to Monga, this was the first time a ticket sold through his shop had won the ₹1-crore prize since he moved his stall near the railway station.

For Bimla and her family, the win represents more than a lottery prize. It offers an opportunity to ease financial pressures, explore new possibilities and work towards a more secure future for their children.
