A shocking case involving Punjabi influencer Manjeet Kaur has come to light in Punjab, with the woman allegedly being kidnapped, tied to a tree and set on fire in Morinda. While police have registered a case and begun investigating the circumstances surrounding her death, questions are now being raised over an alleged police lapse during her treatment.
The case has gained attention after it emerged that Kaur had reportedly regained consciousness at the PGI and wanted to record her statement. However, despite the police being informed, her statement was allegedly not recorded at that crucial stage.
How Was Manjeet Kaur Allegedly Attacked?
According to Kaur’s mother, Kanta Devi, her daughter was called to Sector 34 by two acquaintances, identified as Shubhi and Pinda.
The two allegedly took Kaur from Sector 34 on the night of July 3 and drove her to Morinda. Upon reaching the location, they allegedly tied her to a tree and set her on fire.
A friend who reached the spot reportedly found Kaur in flames and managed to extinguish the fire using a blanket.
She was immediately rushed to Morinda Hospital for treatment. Due to the seriousness of her condition, she was later referred for further treatment.
From Morinda Hospital To PGI
Kaur was subsequently taken to Max Hospital in Mohali, where she reportedly remained under treatment for several days. She was later referred to the PGI in Chandigarh.
It was during her treatment at the PGI that a crucial development reportedly took place.
According to police sources cited in reports, a call was made from the PGI after Kaur regained consciousness and expressed her desire to record her statement.
Why Was Her Statement Not Recorded?
The information was reportedly conveyed to the police. An investigating officer from the Sector 11 police station reached the location, while ASI Lakhwinder Singh of Kharar Sadar police station was also informed over the phone.
However, the ASI allegedly did not reach the hospital to record Kaur’s statement.
A Daily Diary Report (DDR) was later registered at the PGI police outpost.
The alleged failure to record the statement has now become a key point of scrutiny in the case, with the police department expected to examine whether the lapse affected the investigation.
Police Examine Hospitals, CCTV Footage
Investigators are also checking whether Morinda Hospital and Max Hospital in Mohali had informed the police about Kaur’s medico-legal case (MLC), as required in such cases.
At the same time, police are scanning CCTV footage from the areas linked to the incident to identify the vehicle allegedly used in the kidnapping.
The role of the police official who was reportedly informed about Kaur’s condition is also expected to be examined.
The investigation is now focusing on two key aspects — identifying those responsible for the alleged kidnapping and attack, and determining whether any procedural lapses occurred while Kaur was undergoing treatment.
