Railways to run 15 pairs of special trains for Diwali & Chhath, 3,700-sqm waiting areas planned

According to railway officials, 15 pairs of special trains will operate for the festive season, covering a total of 98 trips

To manage the rush of passengers during Diwali and Chhath Puja, the Firozpur Railway Division has announced special train services and additional facilities at major railway stations across Punjab.

According to railway officials, 15 pairs of special trains will operate for the festive season, covering a total of 98 trips. The arrangements include additional coaches, temporary waiting areas, extra ticket counters and help desks to make travel easier for passengers.

Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Basant Kumar said enhanced passenger facilities have been arranged at major stations, including Jalandhar, Ludhiana and Amritsar. Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) personnel have also been deployed to ensure passenger safety.

15 pairs of special trains to operate

The Firozpur Division has arranged special trains from different stations to handle the increased passenger demand during the festive season.

Of the 15 pairs of special trains, five pairs will operate from Amritsar, six from Ludhiana, two from Firozpur Cantt and one from Jalandhar City. Special services will also operate from Chheharta.

Railway officials said 16 scheduled trains are heading towards the eastern region. Of these, five operate daily, while the remaining trains run once, twice, three times or four times a week.

To accommodate more passengers, additional coaches have also been attached to two special trains.

Two extra 3AC coaches have been added to train number 04616, running between Firozpur Cantt and Patna, and train number 04668, running between Amritsar and Barauni.

Railway officials said additional special trains may also be operated if passenger demand increases further during the festive period.

3,700-square-meter temporary waiting areas

To manage passenger crowds and provide space for people waiting for trains, temporary waiting areas covering approximately 3,700 square meters are being established at four railway stations.

The arrangements include:

- Ludhiana: 2,500 square meters

- Amritsar: 300 square meters

- Jalandhar City: 400 square meters

- Dhandari Kalan: 500 square meters

These temporary waiting areas are being set up to help passengers wait comfortably and manage crowd movement at busy stations.

Additional ticket counters and help desks

Railway authorities have also opened additional ticket counters at major stations to reduce inconvenience during the festive rush.

Passengers are being encouraged to book their tickets through the UTS mobile application.

Help desks have been established at all major railway stations to assist passengers with travel-related queries and provide necessary information.

The Firozpur Railway Division said the arrangements have been made to manage the expected increase in passenger traffic during Diwali and Chhath Puja, when a large number of people travel towards eastern parts of the country.

The railway authorities are also keeping the possibility of additional special train services open, depending on passenger demand.
