From Petrol Langar to iPhone Langar
Amritsar-based businessman Rakesh Trehan, popularly known as Raja D King, has once again attracted attention on social media with an unusual announcement—an “iPhone Langar” for women.
The announcement comes shortly after his proposed petrol langar in Chandigarh, which was postponed amid heavy rain and later called off over safety concerns and the reported lack of administrative permission.
Now, instead of fuel, the focus has shifted to one of the world's most recognisable premium smartphones.
What Is the iPhone Langar?
In a video circulating on social media, Raja D King explained a registration process for what he described as an iPhone-related giveaway.
According to his announcement, only women aged 18 years or above can participate. He has claimed that participants do not need to meet any financial eligibility condition.
Women interested in the scheme have reportedly been asked to send “Jai Mata Di” to the number 8343000786. According to the video, the number would then be added to a WhatsApp group reportedly named “Jai Mata Di iPhone Group.”
Participants are allegedly required to send “Jai Mata Di” daily in the group.
Why Is It Being Called an ‘iPhone Langar’?
The word langar traditionally represents the practice of serving food freely and equally to people, without discrimination based on caste, religion, social status or financial position.
Using the term for the distribution of an expensive smartphone makes the announcement unusual.
Unlike conventional langar, where food is provided as a basic form of community service, an iPhone is a high-value consumer product. This has naturally led to debate over whether such a giveaway can meaningfully be described as a “langar” or whether the term is being used as a distinctive way of presenting a promotional or charitable initiative.
No Financial Condition Claimed, But Details Remain Unclear
One of the most striking claims in the announcement is that no financial condition has been attached to participation.
However, several important details remain unclear. The exact number of iPhones, models, total value, final selection mechanism, distribution date and method of delivery have not been independently verified.
The women-only eligibility and WhatsApp registration process are currently based on Raja D King's own social-media announcement rather than an independently verified distribution programme.
The Petrol Langar Connection
The iPhone announcement follows Raja D King's earlier proposal to organise a petrol langar in Chandigarh.
He had initially announced the petrol distribution for August 18, but the programme was postponed because of heavy rain. A second announcement was made for August 21.
However, the proposed event was subsequently called off after authorities reportedly raised security and law-and-order concerns, with administrative permission also cited as an issue.
The petrol-langar announcement had already generated considerable public interest and crowds, making the latest iPhone proposal another major social-media talking point.
