Richi Kaypee case: Punjab FM breaks silence on absconding Creta owner Prince

During his media address, Harpal Singh Cheema was asked about the absconding Creta owner Prince and the owner of Grand Vitara car

Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema on Thursday visited Mohinder Singh Kaypee's house in Jalandhar. Finance Minister Cheema visited Kaypee's house to offer his condolences over the tragic demise of his only son Richi Kaypee. Richi Kaypee was 36-year-old when he died in a road accident in Model Town area of Jalandhar on last Saturday night.

During his media address, Cheema was asked about the absconding Creta owner Prince and the owner of Grand Vitara car. For the unversed, Creta owner Gursharan Singh aka Prince has been absconding in the case.

Harpal Singh Cheema on absconding accused Prince

Cheema was asked about Prince who is yet untraceable by Punjab Police. On this Cheema said, "Whoever is the culprit, wherever he is hiding or under whosoever he is hiding, law can always reach to him. He will soon be arrested and nobody responsible will be spared."

"When the accident had taken place, he should have helped rather than fleeing from the spot. It's also under the law that you can now help the injured person in the accident. But, by fleeing from the spot, he broke the law."

Cheema was also asked about another accused in the case i.e. the person who was driving Grand Vitara. Notably, the family of the person driving Grand Vitara has called FIR against them in Richi Kaypee case unfair and biased.

On this , Cheema said, "I don't think I should comment on the legal matters. Right now, investigations are in initial stages. We should not interrupt in that. Investigation Officer is probing with full transparency. They should co-operate with the Police."

For the unversed, A case has since been registered against both the Creta driver, Gursharan Singh alias Prince, and the Vitara driver, Vishu Kapoor, under sections 281, 125(A), 125(B), 105 and 324(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023, relating to rash or negligent driving, endangering life, causing death by rash act, and mischief causing damage.

Sudha Kapoor, mother of the man who was driving Grand Vitara, said, "The Grand Vitara car belonged to us. Creta hit the Fortuner, then the Fortuner hit my child's car. The car (Grand Vitara) after being hit went through the grill. After being hit, my child almost fainted. People nearby then took my child out, we were totally confused."

"Some people brought my child to a hospital. There were 3 people inside the car during that the time of the accident. My daughter-in-law, my son and their 8 year-old daughter. All of them suffered injuries, especially my son."

"Earlier, the Police was taking action against Creta. But, now our name is also in the FIR. All CCTV footages must be seen and action must taken against those who are at fault."

"We are also very sad for the child who died (Richi Kaypee). The one who died was also like our son. FIR against us is very wrong. 'Jedi FIR bana ditti wo bohat galat kitti inhone, pehle sahi ki but kal se bilkul change kar di' (The FIR they filed was completely wrong. At first, they did it correctly, but from yesterday onward, they completely changed it).
