Congress leader and former Rajasthan Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot met Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra in Delhi on Tuesday, shortly after being appointed the party's Punjab In-charge.
Pilot shared picture of his meeting with Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and said, "Met with Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi and Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi this morning and expressed my gratitude to them for entrusting me with the responsibility of Punjab."
"I am fully confident that through collective effort, a strong organisation and the energy of our party workers, the Congress will return to power in Punjab. Our efforts will be driven by complete dedication and commitment towards building a better future for Punjab and protecting and upholding the rights of every section of society, including farmers and the youth," the former Rajasthan Deputy Chief Minister said while marking his location address as 10 Janpath, New Delhi.
Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi also congratulated Sachin Pilot at 10 Janpath in New Delhi on assuming his new responsibility.
The meeting, described as a courtesy call, also focused on the political and organisational challenges facing the Congress in Punjab and preparations for the 2027 Assembly elections, party sources said.
Pilot's appointment comes at a crucial time for the Punjab Congress, which is seeking to strengthen its organisation and regain lost political ground.
The Congress faces the immediate challenge of bringing different factions together and improving coordination among senior leaders, MLAs and grassroots workers in Punjab.
Congress sources said the meeting at 10 Janpath included an initial discussion on the Congress' roadmap for Punjab, organisational activities and preparations for the 2027 polls.
The Congress, however, has not officially released details of the closed-door discussions.
Pilot is expected to visit Chandigarh shortly, where he will hold meetings with senior Punjab Congress leaders, legislators and party workers to assess the organisational situation and chalk out the next course of action.
The Punjab assignment marks a significant expansion of Pilot's organisational responsibilities beyond Rajasthan.
His ability to unite the state party unit and build an effective electoral strategy will be closely watched ahead of the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections.
A successful stint in Punjab could also strengthen Pilot's position within the Congress at the national level, while the immediate challenge remains to convert the high command's confidence into organisational momentum on the ground.
