The deportation of Sarabjit Kaur from Pakistan to India is postponed as of now. The Pakistan Ministry of Interior has revoked her special travel permit at the very last moment. Sarabjit Kaur was set to return to India via the Attari Wagah international border, but just moments before her return the decision was taken back by the Pakistan Ministry of Interior.
At the moment, Sarabjit Kaur has been kept under high police surveillance at a Women Shelter Home in Lahore. The Pakistan Ministry of Interior has made it clear that until and unless the special travel permit is issued, Sarabjit will stay at a Women Shelter Home in Lahore.
Sarabjit Kaur who had travelled to Pakistan on November 4, 2025 for the 556th Parkash Purab of Guru Nanak Dev ji along with 1932 Inidian pilgrims was supposed to return to India along with the jatha on 13 November 2025. But she was missing from the jatha upon return.
After this, Pakistan officials traced her to Nankana Sahib district on January 4. During her stay in Pakistan, her visa had expired on November 13, 2025, after which a special permit was requested from Pakistan authorities for her return to India.
As per recent update, the Pakistan officials have told that the permit might be issued by the next week, after which she can return to India. Amid all this a through medical examination of Sarabjit Kaur was also conducted on January 9, 2026, where the doctors have disclosed that she is fit and does not require any medical attention at the moment.
Sarabjit Kaur’s lawyer, Ali Sandhu has told the Lahore High Court that the case is currently undergoing legal proceedings, and assures that the court and the other relevant departments are swiftly examining the matter and completing all the formalities so that Sarabjit’s return can be ensured smoothly.
