SGPC buses vandalised near Gurdwara Saragarhi Sahib in Amritsar, suspected firing under probe

Several buses operated by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) were allegedly vandalised late Wednesday night while parked near Gurdwara Saragarhi Sahib on the Heritage Street leading towards the Golden Temple.

The incident has raised concerns over the security of SGPC vehicles and pilgrims visiting the holy city.

Possible Firing Suspected

Sources have also raised suspicion that the buses may have been targeted with gunfire. However, the firing angle has not been officially confirmed so far.

Police are examining the vehicles and other evidence from the spot to determine exactly how the damage was caused.

Buses Used to Facilitate Pilgrim Visits

The SGPC operates these buses to facilitate devotees visiting different Sikh shrines. The vehicles are used to transport pilgrims to various gurdwaras as part of their religious visits.

According to the information available, a group of devotees who had arrived from Jabalpur was scheduled to be taken to different gurdwaras on Thursday.

SGPC Informs Police

Following the incident, the SGPC informed the police about the damage to the buses. Police teams subsequently reached the location and began examining the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Officials are also looking into whether the vandalism was carried out by unidentified persons during the night.

CCTV Footage Being Examined

Police are scanning CCTV footage from cameras installed around the parking area and nearby locations. The footage is expected to help investigators establish the sequence of events and identify those responsible.

At present, the motive behind the alleged vandalism remains unclear. Police are continuing their investigation, while further details are awaited regarding the extent of the damage and the suspected firing.
