A violent clash broke out between two neighbouring families in Jalandhar last night. A minor dispute turned violent, leaving several members of one family seriously injured. Sticks, iron bangles (kadas), and sharp-edged weapons were allegedly used during the attack. The injured were rushed to Jalandhar Civil Hospital for treatment.
The incident has created tension in the locality. The victims alleged that they immediately informed the police after the attack, but officers did not reach the spot in time. Police have now launched an investigation into the matter.
Dispute Began Over a Wire
The incident took place in a residential area in Ward No. 8 in Jalandhar. According to the victims, the dispute started on Tuesday night over a minor issue related to a wire installed outside the house, believed to be either an electricity or cable wire. What began as a verbal argument between the neighbors soon escalated into a violent confrontation.
Attack on the neughbors
The injured family alleged that while they were standing outside their home, their neighbors—identified as Rohit, Golu, and several others—suddenly attacked them. They claimed the accused outnumbered them and arrived prepared for the assault. According to the family, three to four members were beaten, and even women were not spared during the attack.
Women Suffered Serious Injuries
One of the victims undergoing treatment at the hospital said that the attackers struck his sister with iron bangles and sharp objects, causing serious injuries to her nose and head. When other family members, including his uncle and brother, intervened to stop the fight, they were also allegedly assaulted.
Several members of the family sustained bleeding injuries and were immediately shifted to Civil Hospital for medical treatment.
Family Alleges Delay in Police Response
The victims further alleged that they had called the police as soon as the violence erupted in the neighbourhood. However, they claimed that the police failed to reach the spot on time. According to the family, a prompt response could have prevented the situation from escalating and reduced the number of injuries.
Police Begin Investigation
Following the incident, police initiated an investigation and are examining CCTV footage from nearby houses and shops to identify those involved and verify the sequence of events.
Police officials said statements from both parties are being recorded. Appropriate legal action will be taken against whoever is found guilty based on the findings of the investigation.
