Panic spread in Dera Bassi after a young man was allegedly attacked in broad daylight near the railway crossing on Tehsil Road.
According to preliminary information, a group of attackers travelling in a black Thar allegedly intercepted the victim's car near the railway crossing. The assailants reportedly surrounded the vehicle and attacked the youth with sharp-edged weapons.
Car Vandalised During Attack
The attackers allegedly damaged the victim's car extensively during the assault. The victim suffered serious injuries in the incident.
The injured man has been identified as Taranpreet Singh, son of Bhupinder Singh, a resident of Paragpur village. He is reportedly a second-year student at Government College, Dera Bassi.
Attackers Abandon Thar and Escape
Taranpreet was reportedly travelling towards Paragpur when the attackers intercepted him shortly after he crossed the railway gate.
As people nearby began gathering after hearing the commotion, the attackers allegedly fled the spot, leaving their black Thar behind.
Passers-by subsequently rushed the injured youth to Dera Bassi hospital. After receiving initial treatment, he was referred to Sector 32 Hospital in Chandigarh considering the seriousness of his injuries.
Old Rivalry Suspected
A previous rivalry is being cited as a possible reason behind the attack. However, the exact motive has not yet been established and is expected to become clear during the police investigation.
Police Launch Investigation
Police teams reached the spot after receiving information about the incident and took the vehicles involved into custody.
Investigators are now working to identify the attackers, establish the circumstances leading to the assault and determine the exact motive. Police are also searching for the suspects.
