An update from the Pandori locality near Sultanpur Lodhi has come where a family that had already lost four sons has now lost their fifth son as well who died during treatment at Government Medical College Amritsar.
DSP Sultanpur Lodhi Dheerendra Verma confirmed the death and said that the exact cause will be known only after the post-mortem report is received.
Earlier the mother of the family had claimed that she lost four of her sons due to drug addiction over the past few years and she had said that her fifth and last son was also in critical condition and doctors had little hope as his health had badly deteriorated.
She had also shared that for days no food was cooked in the house due to the situation and many women in the locality supported her claims saying that several families in the area are facing similar problems with young men falling into drug addiction.
Local residents alleged that drugs especially ‘chitta’ (heroin) are still being sold openly in the area and claimed that drug suppliers come on motorcycle, deliver packets and leave without fear even near the police station and people in the area said the situation is getting worse with addiction forcing many youths to sell household items leading to financial and social breakdown of families.
However the police have presented a different version of events as Kapurthala SSP Gaurav Toora stated that the deaths of the four sons happened due to different reasons and were not all linked to drugs. According to the police:
One son died around 8 years ago in jail custody
Another died 7 years ago due to burn injuries
The third died due to excessive alcohol consumption
The fourth died about 2 years ago due to various illnesses
The police also said that the family has a past history related to drug peddling with cases registered under the NDPS Act and added that the fifth son was also suffering from multiple illnesses and had a criminal record and talking further SSP Toora stated that the family never filed any formal complaint regarding drug peddlers and said the police had earlier provided counselling and medicines through a de-addiction centre in March 2026.
