A theft was reported at a sweets and bakery shop on Garha Road in Jalandhar, where unidentified thieves allegedly broke open the shutter of Bikaner Sweets and Baker late at night and escaped with cash and a DVR.
The incident came to light on Wednesday morning when the shop was opened. According to the shop owner, the shutter had been forcibly lifted and items inside the shop were found scattered.
Thieves Break Open Shop Shutter
According to shop owner Ganesh, he and his brother had closed the shop at around 11 p.m. before leaving for the night. The following morning, he asked his brother to open the shop. When his brother reached the premises, he found the shutter damaged and the shop in disarray.
The thieves allegedly targeted the shop's safe and took cash along with the digital video recorder (DVR) connected to the CCTV system.
The shop owner initially stated that around ₹92,000 in cash, along with the DVR, was missing from the premises.
Police Informed, Forensic Team Collects Fingerprints
Following the discovery, the shopkeeper informed the police about the incident. Police personnel reached the spot and advised the shop owner not to disturb the premises so that forensic evidence could be collected.
The forensic team subsequently examined the shop and collected fingerprints as part of the investigation.
CCTV Footage Being Examined
ASI Balwinder Pal, the investigating officer, said police received information about the theft and reached the shop to inspect the scene.
According to the officer, the thieves appeared to have forcibly lifted the shop's shutter to gain entry. Police teams are now examining CCTV cameras installed in and around the area in an attempt to identify the suspects and trace their movements.
The officer said the shopkeeper's statement has been recorded and further action is being taken based on the complaint.
Investigation Underway
Police said the exact circumstances surrounding the break-in are being investigated. The recovery of the stolen DVR could also be significant, as investigators may be able to examine available footage or other evidence linked to the theft.
The incident has once again raised concerns over security at commercial establishments in the city, particularly during late-night hours. Police said efforts are underway to identify and apprehend those responsible, while the investigation remains ongoing.
