Three Amarnath pilgrims die after vehicle hits parked truck on Bathinda-Dabwali highway

The devotees were travelling from Rajasthan's Barmer to the Amarnath shrine when their vehicle rammed into a parked truck; Reason still ascertain

Reports of an intense road accident have come in light on the Bathinda-Dabwali highway. The pilgrims travelling to the Amarnath Yatra met with an accident on 1st July 2026 i.e. Wednesday. The accident took place around 4-5 in the morning. This led to the death of 3 on the spot and serious injuries to one. The injured has been hospitalized in AIIMS, Bathinda.

Preliminary information

According to the preliminary information, the victims were a part of the pilgrim group travelling from Barmar district in Rajasthan to the holy cave of lord Shiva in Amarnath, Jammu and Kashmir. Their pilgrim journey tragically came to an end when the tempo traveler rammed into a truck standing along the highway.

Conversation with the SHO

Giving information, Sangat Police Station SHO Jagdeep Singh said that the accident took place at around 4-5 in morning on the Bathinda-Dabwali highway. The traveler collided into a stationary truck parked on the highway. The collision was so intense that it mangled the front part of the traveler and 3 died at the spot while one is in critical condition, admitted in AIIMS.

The locals informed the police after the accident took place and investigation was started as soon as possible. The investigation is underway and no clear reasons of the clash can be found. The bodies of the dead have been sent to the mortuary in Bathinda while the treatment of the injured is in process. However, the doctors said that he is in critical condition.

Reasons of the accident

Police officials are trying to have a better look at the ause of the accident. Poor visibility, driver fatigue, overspeeding or any other factor could be the reason of the accident. The dead bodies will be handed over to family after post-mortem examinations. The police is talking to the eyewitnesses and recording statements as the part of investigation. The CCTV footages are also being examined to know the sequence of events and identifying the reason of clash.

Appeal to the public

Authorities have appealed to pilgrims travelling long distances to exercise caution, take adequate rest during their journey and strictly follow road safety norms to prevent such tragic accidents.
