Three youths held for alleged phone snatching in Phagwara, thrashed by public

Mobile Snatching Triggers Chase in Phagwara

A mobile phone snatching incident in Phagwara took an unexpected turn when three motorcycle-borne youths allegedly involved in the crime were chased and caught by locals near the city bus stand.

The suspects were reportedly surrounded by a crowd, following which several people allegedly assaulted them before handing them over to the police.

Victim Chases Suspects After Snatching

According to the victim, Surjit Singh, he was travelling on his motorcycle when the three youths, also riding a motorcycle, approached him near Bhullarai Chowk.

The trio allegedly snatched his mobile phone and fled from the spot. Surjit said he immediately followed them and managed to catch the three near the bus stand.

Newly Appointed SP Intervenes

During the commotion, Phagwara’s newly appointed SP, Major Singh, happened to pass through the area. He stopped after noticing the gathering and sought details about the incident.

A police team subsequently took all three suspects into custody and shifted them to the police station for further questioning and legal action.

Police Begin Further Investigation

The police are now investigating the alleged mobile snatching and the involvement of the three suspects. Further details regarding their identities, criminal background and the recovery of the stolen mobile phone are awaited.

SP Major Singh said that strict action would be taken against those involved in theft and robbery and that such offenders would not be spared.
