The Indian Air Force is bidding farewell to its iconic MiG-21 fighter jets with a ceremonial air show in Chandigarh today, and city residents should brace for traffic restrictions during the event. The Chandigarh Police have issued an advisory regulating movement on several major stretches of the city this afternoon.
The restrictions will be enforced from 1:30 pm to 3:00 pm on key routes:
* 3BRD to Kali Bari light point
* Purv Marg (Kali Bari light point to Transport Area junction)
* Madhya Marg (Transport Area light point to East Chowk near Sector 26 police station)
* Sukhna Path (East Chowk towards Golf Course turn up to Punjab Raj Bhavan)
The police have urged motorists to avoid these stretches and use alternative roads to prevent congestion. Officials stressed that the curbs are temporary and aimed at public safety as well as smooth conduct of the flypast.
Residents have been advised to follow real-time updates on Chandigarh Traffic Police’s social media handles on X (@trafficchd), Instagram, and Facebook.
The farewell event is expected to draw large crowds as the MiG-21 makes its final public appearance over Chandigarh skies. Dubbed the “backbone of the IAF” for decades, the jet has been a symbol of India’s aerial defence, and its ceremonial exit marks the end of a defining era in military aviation.
