Tragic accident on Moga-Kotkapura bypass claims young painter's life

Vicky's father had passed away 10 days ago, making him the family's only breadwinner, his youngest daughter was born just two days before the fatal accident

A 27-year-old man lost his life in a tragic road accident on the Moga-Kotkapura Bypass late on Saturday night i.e.11 July 2026.  After his motorcycle was allegedly hit by a speeding Bolero Camper near the Radha Soami Dera, the driver fled the scene following the accident, and police have registered a case against the unidentified accused and launched a search.

Identification of the victim

The deceased has been identified as Vicky Singh (27), son of Manjit Singh and a resident of Singhanwala village in Moga district. He worked as a painter and was the only earning member of his family. According to the police, Vicky had gone to a hospital in Moga to deliver food to a family member. While returning home on his motorcycle, he was hit by an unidentified Bolero Camper near the Radha Soami Dera on the Moga-Kotkapura Bypass. The collision left him critically injured.

Police investigation

After receiving information about the accident, a team of the Special Security Force (SSF) reached the spot and shifted Vicky to the Civil Hospital in Moga. However, doctors declared him dead on arrival.

The tragedy has left the family shattered. Vicky's father had passed away just 10 days ago, making him the family's only breadwinner. The deceased was a married man and had three young children—a son and two daughters. His youngest daughter was born just two days before the fatal accident, adding to the family's grief.

ASI Malkit Singh

Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Malkit Singh of City South Police Station said that the complaint was lodged by Sarabjit Singh, son of Nachhatar Singh and uncle of the deceased. According to the complaint, the Bolero Camper driver was driving at high speed and in a rash and negligent manner when the vehicle hit Vicky's motorcycle on Kotkapura Road.

Investigation on the case

Following the accident, the driver fled the scene without helping the victim. Based on the complaint, police have registered a case against the unidentified Bolero Camper driver under relevant sections of law. Efforts are underway to identify the vehicle and arrest the accused. After the post-mortem examination at the Civil Hospital in Moga, the body was handed over to the family for the last rites.

The heartbreaking incident has sparked concern over rising hit-and-run cases and reckless driving on Punjab's highways, with locals demanding stricter enforcement of traffic laws to prevent such tragedies.
