Traffic disruptions were reported near BSF Chowk after a heavy truck hit an electric pole causing live power wires to snap and fall on road poising as hazard to commuters. The incident blocked traffic on both sides of the busy road, following which the Punjab Police and the Punjab Road Safety Force quickly reached the spot and halted the traffic flow to prevent any mishap.
The electricity department was promptly informed about the incident and the staff rushed to the scene to tend to the matter. The workers then removed the broken wires and cleared the road, allowing the traffic to resume nearly an hour later.
The electricity department employee Harkirat Singh said that a heavy vehicle passing near BSF Chowk collided with overhead wires which led to the pole collapsing causing the wires to snap. As of now it has not been established which specific vehicle caused the damage, but the department is working to repair the broken infrastructure.
Police official Rajinder Singh informs that the truck’s height was higher than usual, which caused it to hit the overhead wires. As the live wires fell onto the road, traffic had to be halted for around 45 minutes, resulting in a long traffic jam. Officials confirmed that the situation has now been brought under control and traffic movement has returned to normal.
