The Punjab Government on Friday launched the second phase of its Mawan Dhiyan Satkar Yojana, with Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann inaugurating the programme in Pathankot and during the event, the Chief Minister announced that financial assistance of ₹3,000 and ₹4,500 was being transferred directly into the bank accounts of around 40 lakh women across the state.
Addressing the gathering, Bhagwant Mann congratulated the women beneficiaries and said the government had fulfilled the promise it made to the women of Punjab and said the financial assistance belongs to the beneficiaries and they are free to spend the money according to their own needs.
The Chief Minister also thanked the mothers and sisters of Punjab for their continued support and said their trust in the government had made it possible to implement the scheme successfully. The amount is being transferred directly into beneficiaries' bank accounts through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system.
The latest transfer comes after the Punjab Government officially began the scheme earlier where, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann launched the first phase by digitally transferring the first instalments directly into the bank accounts of eligible women.
Under the scheme, women belonging to the Scheduled Caste category receive ₹1,500 every month, while women from the General and other eligible categories receive ₹1,000 every month and at the time of the launch, the government released payments for three months together, resulting in beneficiaries receiving ₹4,500 under the SC category and ₹3,000 under the General category.
The state government had said the amount would begin reflecting in beneficiaries' bank accounts through the DBT system, ensuring that the money reaches eligible women directly without intermediaries and speaking about the same, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann had said the government had fulfilled its commitment to provide financial assistance to women across Punjab and also assured beneficiaries that the scheme would continue in the future and would not be discontinued.
The Chief Minister said the initiative aims to support and empower women while recognising their contribution to society and added that using the Direct Benefit Transfer system ensures transparency by sending the financial assistance directly into beneficiaries' bank accounts.
For the implementation of the scheme, the state government released funds under two separate budget heads, one for the General category and another for the Scheduled Caste category.
Under the General category, Patiala received the highest allocation of ₹66.60 crore, followed by Sangrur with ₹58.80 crore and Gurdaspur with ₹48.60 crore. Other major allocations included Shri Muktsar Sahib with ₹38.40 crore, Amritsar with ₹36.90 crore, Moga with ₹36.60 crore, Jalandhar with ₹35.10 crore, Mansa with ₹33.60 crore, Bathinda with ₹28.50 crore, Malerkotla with ₹24.90 crore and Faridkot with ₹22.50 crore. Hoshiarpur received ₹19.80 crore, Ludhiana and Rupnagar ₹18.30 crore each, Fazilka ₹13.20 crore, Ferozepur ₹12.90 crore, Tarn Taran ₹12.30 crore, Kapurthala and Pathankot ₹6.90 crore each, SBS Nagar ₹5.40 crore, Fatehgarh Sahib ₹4.20 crore and SAS Nagar ₹2.10 crore.
For the Scheduled Caste category, Jalandhar received the highest allocation of ₹53.55 crore. Shri Muktsar Sahib was allotted ₹40.05 crore, followed by Sangrur with ₹32.85 crore, Moga with ₹29.25 crore, Patiala with ₹28.80 crore and Mansa with ₹26.10 crore. Other allocations included Amritsar ₹21.15 crore, Faridkot ₹20.70 crore, Hoshiarpur ₹20.25 crore, Bathinda ₹18 crore, Fazilka and Gurdaspur ₹17.55 crore each, Ludhiana ₹15.75 crore, Ferozepur ₹11.70 crore, Malerkotla ₹10.80 crore, Tarn Taran ₹7.20 crore, Rupnagar and SBS Nagar ₹6.30 crore each, Kapurthala and Pathankot ₹5.85 crore each, Barnala ₹5.40 crore, Fatehgarh Sahib ₹4.05 crore and SAS Nagar ₹1.35 crore.
With the second phase now underway, the Punjab Government has continued the rollout of the scheme, with financial assistance being credited directly to eligible women across the state.
