A grenade attack on a house barely one kilometre from the Pakistan border has raised serious security concerns in Amritsar’s Ramdas area. Two masked men riding a motorcycle allegedly hurled two grenades at a house in Jatta village, triggering two explosions within a span of just three seconds.
The blasts damaged the house and shattered the windows of a vehicle parked nearby. Three members of the family — Jaspal Singh, his wife Manpreet Kaur and his sister Baljit Kaur — were injured in the attack and were subsequently taken to a hospital for treatment.
Attackers Arrived on Motorcycle, Faces Covered
According to a family member, he had gone to give food to his brother when the two unidentified men arrived outside the house. Both attackers had covered their faces with cloth, making it difficult for those present to identify them.
The men allegedly threw grenades towards the house and immediately fled from the spot on their motorcycle. The sudden explosions caused panic in the area, with the impact damaging windows of the house and a nearby vehicle.
CCTV Captures Moments After Explosions
CCTV footage from the area has provided investigators with crucial clues about the incident. One video reportedly captures the two explosions taking place within approximately three seconds. The footage also shows a young man turning around after hearing the blasts, while a dog can be seen running towards the area.
Another CCTV clip reportedly captures the two masked suspects fleeing on their motorcycle after carrying out the attack. Police are now examining footage from cameras installed in and around the village to establish the attackers' identity, route and movements before and after the incident.
Army Personnel Reached the Spot First
The location of the attack has added another layer of concern to the incident, as the village is situated extremely close to the international border.
Army personnel reportedly reached the house soon after the explosions and secured the area before the police arrived. The explosives were subsequently handed over to the police as investigators began examining the scene.
Security agencies are also expected to assess whether the incident has any connection with activities across the border, although no such link has been established so far.
Police Probe Personal Enmity and Other Angles
Police are investigating the attack from multiple angles. One of the key questions is whether the family had any previous dispute or personal enmity with anyone that could have resulted in the attack.
Investigators are also trying to establish why this particular house was targeted and whether the incident was a planned assault. CCTV footage, statements of family members and local residents, and evidence collected from the scene are expected to form an important part of the investigation.
Border Location Makes Attack Particularly Sensitive
While the motive behind the grenade attack remains unclear, its location has made the incident particularly sensitive. A residential property so close to the international border being targeted by armed, masked men has naturally triggered questions about security and surveillance in the border belt.
