Two men have been arrested and charged in connection with the shooting at comedian Kapil Sharma’s café in Surrey, British Columbia, Canada, marking a significant development in an investigation that remained unresolved for more than a year. Canadian authorities have linked the October 2025 café shooting to a separate firing incident at a residential property, describing both cases as extortion-related.
The accused, identified as 22-year-old Pardeep Singh and 22-year-old Saveer Khan, were arrested in Surrey on November 1, 2026. Both have been charged with two counts of reckless discharge of a firearm, one relating to each shooting. The charges have been approved by the British Columbia Prosecution Service, and the accused remain in custody.
Kapil Sharma’s Café Targeted for Third Time
The latest shooting at Kapil Sharma’s establishment, identified in Canadian media reports as Kap’s Café, took place on October 16, 2025, in Surrey. The café, located in the 8400-block of 120 Street, was reportedly targeted for the third time since opening in July 2025.
According to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), officers responded to reports of gunfire at the premises. Although the café was closed at the time, two employees were inside the building. Fortunately, neither sustained injuries.
The repeated attacks had drawn attention to the security concerns surrounding the establishment and the wider issue of extortion-related violence in British Columbia.
Separate Shooting Left a Woman Injured
Investigators also connected the café shooting to another incident reported on October 12, 2025, at a residential property in Surrey.
Police responded to reports of gunfire at a house in the 13000-block of 103A Avenue, where a woman sustained injuries. The incident became part of the same investigation after authorities identified potential links between the two shootings.
The BC Provincial Extortion Task Force subsequently took charge of both investigations to examine the possible connections between the attacks.
Year-Long Investigation Leads to Arrests
The BC Provincial Extortion Task Force assumed responsibility for both cases after investigators identified possible links between the incidents. The arrests were carried out on November 1, 2026, in coordination with the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit of British Columbia (CFSEU-BC) and Surrey Police Service.
According to the authorities, the investigation involved extensive work over the past year, including multiple judicial authorisations, search warrants and detailed examination of evidence.
Chief Superintendent Duncan Pound, Lower Mainland District Operations Officer and Assistant District Commander, said the charges reflected coordinated efforts by law enforcement agencies to tackle extortion-related violence.
He also acknowledged the concerns created by the incidents in the local community and said police were working collaboratively to ensure public safety.
Wider Crackdown on Extortion-Related Violence
The BC Provincial Extortion Task Force was established in September 2025 to coordinate investigations into extortion-related offences across British Columbia. It brings together several law enforcement agencies, including the RCMP, Surrey Police Service and CFSEU-BC.
According to the task force's November 6 announcement, its investigative efforts have resulted in 28 charges against 14 individuals.
The latest arrests mark an important development in the investigation into repeated attacks on Kapil Sharma's café. However, authorities have not publicly disclosed a specific extortion demand connected to either shooting or identified anyone alleged to have directed the attacks.
