Two youths seriously injured after being hit by speeding Mercedes in Chandigarh

The driver fled the scene with the vehicle immediately after the accident. Both the victims are currently undergoing treatment.

A hit-and-run incident outside a nightclub in Chandigarh's Sector 26 left two young men seriously injured on Saturday evening after they were allegedly struck by a speeding Mercedes. The driver fled the scene with the vehicle immediately after the accident. Both the victims are currently undergoing treatment.

Identification of the injured

According to the police, the injured have been identified as Amanjat, a resident of Babu Dham Colony in Sector 26, and Alans Preet, a resident of Sector 44. The two had visited a disco club in Sector 26 on Saturday evening. As they were leaving the club, a speeding Mercedes allegedly rammed into them. The impact of the collision was so severe that both victims were thrown several metres away onto the road, sustaining serious injuries. Instead of stopping to help, the driver sped away from the scene, triggering a police investigation.

Information to the police

After receiving information about the accident, a team from Sector 26 Police Station rushed to the spot and shifted the injured men to GMCH-32, where they are currently receiving medical treatment. Their condition is being closely monitored by doctors.

Police have begun examining CCTV footage from the accident site and nearby areas in an effort to identify the vehicle and its driver. Technical evidence is also being analysed to trace the registration number of the Mercedes and establish the identity of the accused. A case has been registered under relevant sections related to hit-and-run and rash and negligent driving. Police have assured that strict legal action will be taken against the accused once he is traced.

Further investigation

Officials said that all available evidence, including surveillance footage and forensic leads, is being reviewed as part of the investigation. They expressed confidence that the accused driver would be identified and arrested soon.

The incident has once again raised concerns over reckless driving and road safety, particularly in busy nightlife areas of Chandigarh, where speeding vehicles continue to pose a threat to pedestrians and motorists alike.
