A 7-year-old boy died at Satyam Hospital near Kapurthala Chowk late Monday night.
The child’s family has levelled allegations against the hospital administration and doctors, claiming they were not properly informed about his condition and later learnt about his death only after entering the hospital premises, and according to the family, the boy fell from the roof on Monday and suffered a head injury.
His condition later deteriorated, following which he was admitted to Satyam Hospital for treatment.
The boy’s father, Shamsher, alleged that the family was repeatedly asked to arrange money for medicines and tests and he claimed that thousands of rupees were collected from them, but they were not given clear information about the child’s condition.
The family further alleged that they were not allowed to meet the child despite repeatedly asking hospital staff and according to them, they were told to come later, with different timings allegedly given to them, including 5 PM, 6 PM and later 7 or 8 PM.
Suspicious about the situation, the family members allegedly tried to enter the hospital premises and they claimed that bouncers and security guards stopped them and a scuffle took place. According to the family, the boy’s uncle eventually managed to enter the hospital and discovered that the child had already died.
The family has also alleged that the hospital administration continued asking them for money even after the child’s death, and they claimed that had they been informed about the seriousness of his condition in time, they could have considered taking him to another hospital.
The deceased child was reportedly the only son of his parents and had three sisters, and following the incident, the family members gathered outside the hospital and demanded justice.
A complaint was also made through the 112 helpline, following which a police team from Police Station Division No. 2 reached the hospital and police officials inspected the situation and held discussions with the family and the hospital side.
SHO Anu of Police Station Division No. 2 said that the matter is being investigated and stated that further legal action will be taken on the basis of the family’s statements and the findings of the investigation.
