Due to incessant heavy rainfall and floods in at least 12 districts of Punjab, schools have been shut down for the past many days. At first, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on August 26 announced that all schools will remain closed from August 27 to August 30.
In the meantime, Punjab Police, Indian Armed Forces, NDRF, NGOs and District Administration continued their rescue operations in the flood-hit areas.
Thereafter, Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains on August 31 announced that all schools of the state will remain closed till September 3, 2025. Schools and colleges are expected to reopen as usual if weather conditions improve. IMD Chandigarh on September 2 made rainfall prediction and put Jalandhar, and other districts of Punjab on red, orange and yellow alert.
However, on September 3, Pathankot, Gurdaspur are put on orange alert. On the other hand, Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Kapurthala, Hoshiarpur, Jalandhar, Nawanshahr, Ludhiana, Rupnagar, Mohali and Fatehgarh Sahib are on yellow alert on September 3.
For September 4, 5 and 6, IMD has issued no alert till September 2. However, readers are requested to await for IMD's weather forecast on September 3 that will clear the air about weather from September 4.
Notably, as of now, it is highly unlikely that schools will be opened in flood-hit areas.
Weather Website AccuWeather predicts that there is 90% chances of rainfall in Jalandhar on September 3, on September 4, there is only 75% chances of rainfall, on September 5, there is only 25% chances of rainfall on September 6 and 55% chances of rainfall on September 7.
