Will Punjab Witness an Even Colder Winter This Time? Here is What You Should Know

Snowfall in the hills to bring icy winds and rain across Punjab, temperature may drop to 2°C.

Punjab’s weather is once again set to change, with the state expected to experience a sharp drop in temperature in the coming days.

The snowfall in the hilly regions indicates that this time, the cold will be intense. According to the Meteorological Department, the snowfall in the hills will soon impact the plains as well. At present, cold winds can already be felt in the mornings and evenings, suggesting that the chill will probably intensify by next week. In recent days, heavy rain and hailstorms in several districts have made the weather even colder.

Is it Western Disturbance?

The Meteorological Department says this change is due to the activation of a western disturbance. The department has issued a rain warning for nine districts of Punjab and also predicted fog in some areas.

As per the forecast, Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Rupnagar, and SAS Nagar (Mohali) are likely to receive rainfall, and a cold wave alert has been issued for these regions.

The temperature could drop to as low as 2°C, further intensifying the morning and evening chill. Dense fog has already started appearing in several parts of the state, accompanied by cold winds. In rural areas, residents have begun wearing light woolen clothes in the mornings and evenings to cope with the dropping temperatures.
