‘After nine years, we were expecting happiness’: Mother-in-law
In a video recorded after the incident, Rimpi's mother-in-law said that the family had been waiting for nine years for the happiness of welcoming a child.
She claimed that Rimpi had been in good health throughout her pregnancy and had not even suffered from a fever. The mother-in-law added that Rimpi had a mild blood sugar problem but maintained that her overall health had remained stable.
Expressing grief over the loss, she alleged that the hospital staff did not properly inform the family about the deterioration in Rimpi's condition.
Family questions hospital's explanation of sudden BP rise
According to Rimpi's mother-in-law, the family was told that her blood pressure had suddenly increased during the delivery process.
However, she questioned this explanation, claiming that Rimpi's blood pressure had been checked just a few minutes before her condition deteriorated.
She further alleged that the hospital staff did not inform the family about the seriousness of the situation in time.
The mother-in-law said that had the family been informed about Rimpi's critical condition, they could have taken her to Chandigarh or Amritsar for better medical treatment.
The family has also alleged that Rimpi was administered an incorrect injection, following which her condition worsened. These allegations have not yet been independently established.
Rimpi was undergoing treatment at Prakriti Hospital for nine months
According to the family, Rimpi had been receiving treatment at Prakriti Hospital for the past nine months.
She was brought to the hospital on Wednesday night for delivery, after which doctors took her to the operation theatre.
However, during the course of treatment, both Rimpi and her unborn baby died.
The circumstances surrounding the deaths remain unclear, and the family's allegations of medical negligence are currently under investigation.
Family stages protest outside hospital
Following the incident, Rimpi's family members staged a protest outside Prakriti Hospital, accusing the hospital administration of negligence and demanding answers.
The protest prompted the intervention of the police, who reached the spot after receiving information about the incident.
Police from the Cantonment police station began recording statements from the family members as part of the investigation.
Two doctors detained for questioning
ADCP City-2 Madhavi Sharma also reached the hospital and confirmed that the police had received information about a woman who died during delivery at the facility.
She said that the exact cause of death had not yet been established.
Based on the family's complaint, two doctors from the hospital have been taken into custody for questioning.
Police have taken custody of Rimpi's body and initiated the necessary legal proceedings.
Post-mortem to determine cause of death
According to the police, Rimpi's body will undergo a post-mortem examination by a board of doctors.
The actual cause of death will be determined after the post-mortem report is received.
