Security agencies have achieved a major milestone against drug traffickers at Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport in Amritsar. A woman who had arrived from Thailand was apprehended on charges of drug trafficking with approximately 1.5 kg of suspected narcotics. The estimated cost of the contraband confiscated from her is estimated to be in crores in the international market.
A joint operation was conducted by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) and the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF). Prior to the operation, the security agencies had received the intel that a narcotics consignment was being planned to be smuggled into the country through Amritsar Airport. Based off the given intel, the agencies had maintained special surveillance at the airport.
As soon as the flight from Thailand touched down in Amritsar, the woman was stopped due to suspicious activity. Later, she was searched and a large quantity of narcotics was recovered from her luggage. The woman was immediately taken into custody after that.
As of now, the woman is being interrogated and the investigation agencies are trying to figure out the larger picture. It is being investigated that upon whose instructions she was working, and which drug trafficking network is behind this operation. It is also under probe that weather the drug consignment was meant for Punjab or some other state.
Currently, the agencies have confirmed that more arrests are expected to take place in the coming days.
