25-year-old Jalandhar girl attempts suicide, jumps from flyover

At around 5.45 PM Jyoti Sharma, a resident of Aman Nagar, on Sodal road, tried to end her life by jumping from the BMC flyover. Fortunately, she was saved after a team of traffic police deployed at the chowk took her to the hospital.

A 25-year old girl sustained major injuries on her spinal cord, hip bone and legs after she attempted to commit suicide on New Year’s Day. Admitted here at District Civil Hospital, the girl reportedly jumped from city's busiest flyover. Depression and failed love affair allegedly pushed her to take the extreme step, says sources.

At around 5.45 PM Jyoti Sharma, a resident of Aman Nagar, on Sodal road, tried to end her life by jumping from the BMC flyover. Fortunately, she was saved after a team of traffic police deployed at the chowk took her to the hospital.

Working here at a private organization in Milap Chowk, the girl before attempting suicide walked a distance of over two kilometers from her office to the flyover. While the girl is still receiving treatment at the hospital, the Investigation Officer, Inspector, Ravinder Singh, SHO Navi  Baradari police station said that both legs of the girl has been broken and she has multiple fractures on her spinal cord and hip bones.

"At around six in the evening on the Friday, we received information that a girl has jumped from the BMC flyover, following which we reached the spot and took the girl to the hospital”, the police said.

In her statements to the police, the victim told the police that she took the extreme step due to the financial problems at her house. She was also struggling from depression lately due to her relationship, informed SHO.

The police have kept her phone in their custody for further investigation. A native of Nawanshahr, the girl was residing here with her father, mother and an elder brother.
