Coronavirus update: India's COVID count reaches 54.87 lakhs, schools reopen and more.

India Nationwide-Lockdown West-Bengal

India records a rise in COVID cases, confirmed cases increased to 54.8 lakh and 1,130 deaths in the last 24 hours.

Today counts for the 182nd day since India went to implement a nationwide lockdown to curb the spread of Novel Coronavirus. India's COVID number has reached to 54,87,580 confirmed cases, with 87,882 deaths by far. Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh have the highest number of cases recorded. In the last 24 hours, 86,961 cases have been reported including 1,130 deaths. COVID cases are, however, rising in states like Karnataka, West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh. India has reached the top position in terms of recoveries. The recovery rate stands at 80.1 per cent. Over 3.07 crore confirm cases have been recorded across the globe with more than 9.53 lakh people succumb to death. 

# Feluda the first desi COVID test kit gets approval. It has been developed by scientists from the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research's IGIB in Delhi along with Tata. The kit will diagnose the virus in two hours.  

# About 64,42,92,549 COVID samples were tested on September 20 in the country, said ICMR. Active cases in India is 10,03,299 whereas 43,96,399 Covid-19 patients have been cured of the infection.

# 59 new Covid-19 cases have been reported in Nagaland making the state tally to 5,451. Active cases in the state are 1,184, seven patients have recovered from the infection yesterday.

# Coronavirus restrictions will be eased in Auckland lifting all restrictions in the entire country, the statement has been given by New Zealand's Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern. 

# "No significant mutation of novel coronavirus in India", said Health Minister Harsh Vardhan. He said that ICMR is conducting large-scale sequencing of nationally representative strains and results on the mutation of the virus will be out by early October.

# Death toll due to Covid-19 has risen to 4,359 in West Bengal, yesterday as 61 people died because of the infection on 20 September. The total number of cases in the state has gone up to 2.25 lakh as 3,177 more people have been tested positive for the disease.  

# In Srinagar, students of class 9 to 12 can visit schools from 21 September, for taking guidance from teachers. Only 50% of the staff will be allowed in school. The students can visit schools on a voluntary basis. Schools and colleges to reopen in Assam as well. 

# With a jump of Covid-19 cases taking it to 20,000 in the past week, several districts will undergo lockdown in Chhattisgarh from today. Raipur, Bilaspur, Durg, Raigarh and 6 more districts have decided to impose a complete lockdown.
