Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday declared that Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) will contest the Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls in 2022. Speaking to the media in a virtual briefing, Kejriwal said the AAP has come victorious in the national capital and governed Delhi thrice. It also emerged as the main opposition party in Punjab during the state assembly elections.

Arvind Kejriwal said, "The Aam Aadmi Party has formed government thrice in Delhi and emerged as the main opposition party in Punjab in the past eight years. But today, I want to make an important announcement. The AAP will contest the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections in 2022.”

Kejriwal further added that people from Uttar Pradesh who live in Delhi and several organisations have suggested that AAP should contest elections in UP, adding the people are unhappy with the present state government.

Arvind Kejriwal said people in UP can also get the facilities like that of Delhi such as Mohalla clinics, free electricity, water, good education, and health facilities.

"Uttar Pradesh has been ruled by several parties but none worked for the public. Why do people from Uttar Pradesh have to come to Delhi for basic amenities like education and healthcare? Why can't the largest state in the country become the most advanced state?” added Kejriwal.

Arvind Kejriwal said UP has remained backwards and there has been no real progress and development in the state because of "dirty politics" and "corrupt" politicians.

In a recent statement, Samajwadi Party chief and former Uttar Pradesh CM Akhilesh Yadav had said his party will only have pre-poll alliances with smaller parties asserting that in 2022 UP elections his party would win at least 351 out of 403 seats and will form the next UP government.
