Delhi Covid-19 Increase-In-Corona-Cases

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in his live press conference on Wednesday has said there has been a slight increase in the number of coronavirus cases in Delhi over the past few days whereas, the daily cases have shot up to 1,500 again.

To curb its spread, Kejriwal said that the rate of testing is being doubled.

While addressing the media, the Chief Minister said, "There has been an increase in Covid-19 cases in the past few days. However, the recovery rate is more than 90% in the national capital."

"Since August 17, the number of daily cases has been rising by around 1200-1400. In Tuesday's report we had over 1,544 cases, today's report that is yet to be released will show 1,693 new cases," said Kejriwal.

The CM, however, assured that the government is prepared to deal with the spike. "I have directed that the number of tests has to be doubled in the coming days,” he said.

“We are doubling the number of coronavirus tests in Delhi and soon we will conduct 40,000 tests on a daily basis for a week,” said Kejriwal.

He also warned people who are avoiding getting tested due to stigma. “Those who have symptoms and are not getting tested because of overconfidence are leading to more coronavirus cases. Testing is essential if there are symptoms,” said Kejriwal on Wednesday.

The chief minister further added that the recovery rate in Delhi is good while the mortality rate has gone down to 1.4%. Kejriwal also said that out of the 14,000 beds, over 10,000 are lying empty and currently 2,900 Delhi locals are undergoing treatment at hospitals while 800 from outside Delhi are also admitted.
