Ayurvedic Covid-19 vaccine can soon become reality, IIT Alumni Council secures Rs 300 crore

IIT Alumni Council has secured Rs 300 crore funding and is developing a two-dose Ayurveda-based coronavirus vaccine.

The IIT Alumni Council has secured Rs 300 crore for manufacturing of two-dose Ayurvedic covid vaccine that can stop the infection from spreading after few days of the first dose. 

Ravi Sharma, President of the Alumni Council said that the city-based Megalab has been set up last April by the Council would import vaccines from West to Mumbai, at first and then elsewhere. 

Sharma said, “The seed funding is part of the emergency funds lying with Social Fund and forms part of Rs 21,000 crore fundraising announced last April in the peak of the first wave of the pandemic.”

Describing about the vaccine, He said, “Proposed vaccine which will be available for sale within next six months, is an Ayurveda based adjuvant vaccine that will have both injectibles and nasal drops variants, and is expected to improve efficacy, reduce side efficacy, and work across all variants of the coronavirus.”

He further said, “Proposed vaccine is the first antigen-free novel vaccine that is self-limiting and will be locally manufactured in India, the discussion for which are already on with the drug companies and is based on indigenous technology.”

Initially, the vaccine would be available for the Alumni community and the main motive behind the development of medicine is to eradicate the virus.

The Megalab initiative would be led by Dr Arindam Bose, who had previously headed the vaccine development division at Pfizer. Dr Shantaram Kane would head the oral/nasal drops components of the India Vaccine Stack.

Megalab is a joint initiative by IIT Alumni Council with Krsnaa Diagnostics, Kodoy, Koteleo, Platinae, and Brew.
